Carefree Kids is a eatry serving Southern Minnan cuisine. Rooted in locate tradition food culture, and influenced by cuisine from all over the world. Their first restaurant is opening in Shanghai in 2027. I was asked to create a branding identity for them.

For young people in China, life can feel nonstop—especially in Shanghai, where everyone seems to move at the speed of light. Carefree Kids offers a space to slow down, switch off, and enjoy the moment.

Our philosophy is simple: “Life is a beach. We just want to wear flip-flops and play in the sand.”

While many Chinese restaurant brands embrace a contemporary take on traditional Chinese aesthetics, I wanted our identity to grow from that carefree philosophy. With an audience drawn from all over the world, we needed a visual language that could connect across cultures and backgrounds.

That led us to flip-flops: a simple, familiar symbol of days off, sandy feet, and having nowhere urgent to be. The perfect starting point for a brand that invites everyone to take life a little less seriously.
